Part of the reason is the high baseline of Pure Vorkosigan Goodness; this book is competing with all-time favourites that dominate everything from Wodehouse-style comic misadventures Brothers in Arms to an intense examination of family and self Mirror Dance to my glorious starting point with Warrior’s Apprentice. Miles tried to remember what age he’d been when his own parents’ friends had stopped seeming part of the furniture. So I also wanted him to get his just desserts for how he was treating Ekaterin as a prize to be won, and I felt that scene delivered satisfaction in spades.


From that point on while the aforementioned convoluted romances not only continued and for that matter became even more complex and tangled other aspects of the novel continued with them hand in hand.
