It is Danto’s revelation of this novel philosophy that gives his book genuine merit. A truly good piece if you are interested in learning more about Warhol and his influences, but as well serves arthkr a good introduction to Danto’s own philosophy.

Andy Warhol Icons of America. That is probably why it took me so long to finish it. The fact of the matter is that this is old ground for Danto, having been expressed more clearly and with greater detail in earlier works.

The author suggests earhol anything can be art, but only if an artist intends it to be so. This little book on an “artist” by Danto is an excellent explanation of the philosophical-psychological aspect of what makes art art with an emphasis on pop art which is perhaps the most exaggerated example of how that all works.
