I’m not a fan of this type of “clean” book but I read the entire thing! There is no value in virginity, and Keir is horrified by Lara’s untouched status and even suggests that she loses the V-card with a “qualified” teacher instead of him. It all just worked for me. Want to Read saving…. He treats her kf respect, and lets her heal others, and roam the camp.
At last, general Warren drew a breath. I had my first clue a few pages in when I realized the prose I could expect would be basic at best, for a romantic fantasy. I don’t think they consider the children “bastards” in their culture.
We are experiencing technical difficulties. The only pseudo similarity to the Kushiel series is that the main character, Lara, becomes the sex slave tribute to an invading Warlord–and even that is a bit of a stretch. In Warprize the heroine, Lara, is a healer, and she is a princess, and her step brother is the king. She’s a healer and – although badass – doesn’t know how to fight, hunt or use a bow. Nine times out of ten, we see the hero from a distance.
Lara is a healer of her people. She sells all she has to afford the medicines from her own pocket, demonstrating a true compassionate spirit who just wants to treat the injured and dying, regardless of what side they are on. She is never squeamish and talks herself through each injury and what must be done with each patient in the absence of our modern-day medical advances. She’s not a political statement and she doesn’t have magical powers. View all 9 comments. I got bored sometimes, but not much, and the characters were lovely.
View all 14 comments. I think this was limited because the story is told from a singular point of view, Lara’s. Thrust into a war that she can do nothing to prevent, Master Healer Xylara, sister to the king, does what she can to prevent the suffering of the men on both sides of the war.
In some cases, as with Chronicles of Narniadisagreements about order necessitate the creation of more than one series. This man, is the warlord, who is demanding that she become his warprize.
Chronicles of the Warlands Series by Elizabeth Vaughan
When she was given to Keir, she decided to open her heart to him and his people instead of being a whimpering mess. Also, for those wondering, this is PG, maybe 13 for some “kissing” and a vague sex scene. I also really enjoy a healer main character. During the time that Lara cared for the wounded warriors she learned their language, but their customs are still very foreign to her, so there were a few of misunderstanding because of this.
She might be unsure of her place within the hierarchy of the camp but she knows she’s a great Healer so chrknicles quickly finds her niche. If you like romantasy and excellent world building go buy it!
The heroine Xylara Lara AKA Warprize is a wonderful blend of sass with a touching vulnerability that makes her born to be a strong yet empathetic Healer. Warprize is journal writing if the writer were a drone. The romance between her and Chgonicles is very slow in forming, both physically and emotionally, which is part of what makes it so good.
I was glued to each page. See all 5 questions about Warprize….
Series: The Chronicles of the Warlands
Lara embodies all my goals in life and Keir just kicks ass. This book’s plot, filled with difficult choices and trials for its heroine, is centered around the strengths and limitations of females in antiquity, especially those that led lives among the ranks of the nobility.
So why 4 stars? Lara is such a selfless person and so strong willed, that she would do anything to keep her kingdom safe, tje so agrees to become the warprize. Before she was old enough for a marriage-of-alliance, Xylara was trained as a healer.
If you enjoy warlanfs romance —even a little— I would recommend it without hesitation. Warprize by Elizabeth Vaughan. For now, avoid forcing the issue with mere “lists” of works possessing an arbitrary shared characteristic, such as relating to a particular place. While the slow building romance between Keir, Warlord and Lara, Warprize is lovely, the main attraction is Lara introducing tumult into an alien society.
May 11, laura rated it liked it. This book has the same feel. Warlord by Elizabeth Vaughan. This book reminded me of the Tainted Accords series by Kelly St Clare, so if you like one you’d probably like the other. I a This is a culture conflict comfort read for me.
