Honour by Elif Shafak: review
I think I can officially put Elif Shafak on my favorite authors list. Rather than feeling like you’re “watching a train wreak in slow motion”, reading this shadak was more like putting together a fascinating, sad and beautiful puzzle that only comes together at the very end.
Refresh and try again. But Shafak is closer to Isabel Allende in spirit, confidence, and charm. This book should be read by everyone and discussed. Lists with This Book. After Adem abandons his family, Iskender, the eldest son, must step in and become the one who will not let any shame come to the family name.
Her most recent novel Ustam ve Ben December revolves around the life of Mimar Sinan, the most famous Ottoman architect and elid up important debates on power, creativity, artistic freedom and bigotry.
Jamila becomes a local midwife. Even in that village near the Euphrates, where mothers grieve at the birth of each new daughter, women wield considerable social powers, although they are inclined to express them through dreams, premonitions, and potions. Good family and bad family and painful family and just crappy putting up with shit family.
Not fair to the book to read it during this time. Her latest novel published in English, Iskender Honourhas topped the best-seller lists and has been acclaimed by both critics and readers of various ages and backgrounds.
